Tis the season to train :)

Went to San Antonio, Texas for Blind golfing at the USA Blind Championships. It was a great experience golfing with the best Blind golfers. I came 2nd overall low net. I was very pleased with my play. I know what I need to work on to improve my game.

For the next 4 months I will be training at the Milton Indoor Velodrome on the tandem bike to focus on three events leading to the Canadian Championships at the end of March.

I will also be speed skating in Lake Placid in January and getting ready for Worlds in Fort St. John, BC in the beginning of March.

Until then, wishing you and your loved ones a very happy holiday season.

September News

We raced at the Canadian Championships in the end of June in tandem racing and didn’t do well, we ran into a blow out on on our back wheel in the road race and our time trail we had problems with our chain on gears but finished our race at least?. We did a Time Trail race in August in Toronto and won a silver medal with a strong finished on our road bike season. At the end of September will be entering the Canadians Indoor Championships in Milton.

I have taken a new sport of blind golfing and won the low net at the Provincials/ Canadians in Hamilton, ONT and will be off to Texas to compete in the USA Championships. I will enjoy this experience and see what I have to do to keep up with the best in the world.

In life we always have to keep trying new things to see how far we can go.

April Updates

March was a great but tough month. I came 11th in the World in Netherlands in long track speed skating against abled bodied skaters. Great event with great results. The officials and skaters were all very supportive, and my visit to the Netherlands was a nice experience.

Right after my event I caught a nasty chest infection, causing me to rest for two weeks after. I am back on my feet getting ready for the tandem cycling season.

I have a new pilot this season and his name is Scott from Milton. We will be racing in four competitions this season. I am also trying to raise funds to purchase a new racing tandem through Go Fund Me fundraising. If you can donate towards this great purchase it would be much appreciated.

You can also email me if you need more info. For now, I will be going full throttle with my training.

Heading to the Netherlands

I came back from my tandem camp in Florida to get some long rides in, but caught a nasty chest infection half way through the camp. The infection took a lot out of me and I was out of commission for about two weeks.

I have now gotten back into training for my two long track speed skating meets in Lake Placid and for the Worlds in Leeuwarden, Netherlands from March 4-6th. This event is really cool, I’ll be the only disabled and at that; duel disability athlete ever to compete in the able bodied competition at this level. If I place around 10th in the world, I will be extremely happy, but just to compete at this level at all is a honour.

It is very encouraging to know most of the international athletes, and to know that they support me with open arms. Wish me luck!

Fund me in February

January was a great month for cycling and speed skating training indoors.  I won a bronze at Lake Placid against able bodied speed skaters, which was such an honour. I was also recently in Florida for a week as a speaker for a tandem training camp to work with my new pilot.

It has been such a busy month! I also just launched my Go Fund Me fundraising campaign for fasters deaf-blind athlete. Check it out here:  Go Fund Me

Hopefully, with your support, I will be able to get a new racing tandem so that I can stay competitive with the elite tandem riders.  Thank you so much for all your support. It is much appreciated!

Happy New Year!!!!

December has been a great training month for tandem training and getting ready for the speed skating season. I have taken some hockey players under my wing to help them improve their skating game. In 6 weeks of training with me, they have done very well and have moved up to the top of there team. It’s fun to teach hockey players to get stronger on their skating. It is a secret I have that does wonders.

Wishing everyone a very Happy New Year!!

December Updates

After taking a month off of my training, which is really important for an athlete after a long season,  I have started my winter cycling program. Soon I’ll be back on my long track blades.

I hope to compete in 2 or 3 long track competitions this season. One of the secrets of my journey is stretching regularly and flexibility. Flexibility equals muscle motion. This prevents injuries, and when you do have an injury, your recovery is faster.

With this in mind, I will keep training, and I look forward to the holiday season.

Happy Holidays!

November News

In October, I missed the podium by .600th of a sec at the Canadian Championships in tandem track racing. It was still lots of fun.

Our bodies really do need to rest between seasons. If we raced all year round with no rest, our bodies would shut down, therefore, I will be recovering for a few weeks to rejuvenate my body from my long season in speed skating and tandem cycling.

In a few weeks I will be preparing for my winter cycling season and will soon start my preparation for long track racing.

Fall Updates

September was such a busy month.

Every weekend I have been training at the Velodrome track in Milton. Everything was going well with my new pilot until two weeks ago, when he broke his collarbone. (wishing him a speedy recovery) I have found a new pilot to race with, and the results of our training will be seen at Nationals.

We also had our ISSAC fundraiser at Boston Pizza this month and it was a big hit! With the help of the Frosty Team (6 girls from Orleans), Pam and Dave Morin, who put a lot of time into the event, Kristine and Michelle my public relations team and the many donations we received, the event was a huge success. Thank you all.

I would also like to thank everyone who helps me achieve my goals on a daily basis. Its much appreciated.

September Updates

August was a nice month because I was a torchbearer at the Pan Am Para Games in Milton, Ontario. We rode on the Velodrome cycling track with a tandem bike. The torch was very hot to carry, which made it interesting to try to hold while riding on the 250m wooden track. It will be a memory of a lifetime.

Training is going really well. I am now doing some time trail racing with a pilot who lives in Georgetown. I also had some recovery days to rest my body and become stronger. It’s a very important to rest and be ready for races.
